Understanding oppression and allyship training
When someone says "racism", what comes to mind? A mean individual, a racial slur? Maybe you think of explicitly racist groups, like the KKK. This is how the majority of people think about "isms" or systems of oppression, but in fact, it is a narrow understanding of a much broader phenomenon. All oppression operates structurally, at the systemic level, and combating and challenging these systems requires education and expertise. This training, offered by Regan Byrd Consulting LLC and Womxn's March Denver, will aid all participants in articulating what oppression is, and how you can work to combat it effectively as an ally. We will also discuss some common mistakes and errors that folks who think they are doing good allyship, often make in their effort to challenge oppression. Join us for this critical community training.
